Island Ugljan location
Ugljan is a small settlement in Zadar. It is located in the far north of the island of Ugljan, 11 kilometers north of the village of Preko, which is the center of the village. Ugljan includes 9 villages: Čeprljanda, Lučino Selo, Batalaža, Sušica, Gornje Selo, Muline, Guduće, Fortoština, Varoš and several beautiful bays: Činta, Mostir and Luka in Muline. The name of the place and the island of Ugljan most likely comes from the name ulje – olive oil due to the intensive production of olive oil. More than 1000 inhabitants live in Ugljani, mainly in tourism, fishing and agriculture (growing olives, vines and figs). The autochthonous vegetation (oak, pine and cypress) has been replaced by typical Mediterranean cultures, so that from 60 to 70% of the surface of the island is occupied by olive groves and figs. The island of Ugljan is connected to nearby Zadar by a very frequent ferry line, which also operates at night since 2006. The climate on the island of Ugljan is typical Mediterranean with extremely dry summers and mild winters and very pleasant for life in both summer and winter months.
