Description of activity: The former monastery complex forms a picturesque, visually striking composition on a hill north of the city center. The main dominant feature is the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, adjacent to which is the monastery building itself, consisting of four wings surrounding a paradise garden. The refectory wing protrudes from the center of the western facade. The purpose of the reconstruction is to relocate the museum to the former monastery and hospital building due to the museum’s growing demand for space. The museum’s existing storage facilities are in poor technical condition and lack sufficient capacity, so it was also necessary to find sufficiently large spaces for them in the former convent. The chosen layout, i.e., the exhibition part of the museum on the second floor and the storage rooms in the attic, seems ideal from an operational point of view (connection to the existing communication system of the building, evacuation options), as well as from a technical point of view and with regard to the requirements of monument preservation. The design does not interfere with the physical substance of the monument; in many places, it will improve the current condition of the monument and remove inappropriate modern alterations to the monastery. The conversion of the attic into a storage area will require repairs to the roof and the historic roof structure. This is a conceptual approach to the restoration of the entire monument.
